The Maya were excellent astronomers. Predicted with great accuracy the solar eclipse of 1999, which for them was the warning signal for the end of the famous 5125 years which apparently takes a civilization created by mankind.

take a look at our world. Brutal differences between human beings themselves, wars, climate change, murder, rape, clones, LHC, earthquakes, hurricanes, melting polar, terrorism, ... we are not doing too well.
may be necessary, maybe that reset is essential for our own planet for not extinct, not only all the species on this planet, but also to ourselves.
